An Oscars Summary: 2016

For the past two years, I have made an effort to watch all of the Academy Award nominees for Best Picture. This year, I succeeded in watching all eight nominees for the big award prior to the ceremony on February 28th, as well as a couple of nominees for some of the other categories. But the Blorg! Blog didn’t rear its beautiful head until March, so I have been playing catch up ever since. This is my attempt to organize all of the separate Oscar Blorgs into one succinct container. Think of this as a “Best of” review of the “Best” movies of 2015.* And now, without further ado, the Oscars:

Isaac:                                                                  Wilde:                                                                Grouch:

Ahem, and the actual nominees are below, with links to their individual reviews. I tried to view as many nominees as I could in the first couple of months of 2016, but there just wasn’t enough time! I will add more as I watch them.

Best Picture:

The Big Short

Bridge of Spies

Mad Max: Fury Road

The Martian

The Revenant

Other Nominees (and Snubs?):

Ex Machina: review coming soon!

The Hateful Eight:

Animated Feature Films Nominees

The assorted Animated Short Films

*As defined by a bunch of stodgy old white dudes, so let’s not pretend it’s entirely fair. Check out Bette Midler’s tweet for a good overview:

Note: the Blorg! picks for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress were both a bit biased, since I have not seen all of the nominated films. That’s a work in progress and the Blorg! picks could still change.
